The Book of 2014: It’s Your Story

31 Dec

It’s the last day of the year and time for my annual “soapbox” moment. So with that being said, (insert trumpets here), *AHEM*, may I have your attention? Please look away from the social media “memes”, the song lyric status updates, the pictures of everyone’s adorable babies and pets, and people bitching about their relationships just long enough to read my post. LOL!

You’ve had another year to screw things up and we all have, admit it. We’ve eaten too much, said too much, not said enough, not done enough or just haven’t done the things we should have done. Tomorrow starts 365 pages of a brand new story and it’s up to you how it starts and how it ends. Don’t let other people fill in the blanks unless they plan on helping to make your book a top seller. You’re writing each page for you, this is YOUR story.

This year, don’t let the small stuff turn into big stuff unless it’s the small things that truly count like smiles, laughs, hugs, good thoughts, and moments you spend with those you love. Never take those things for granted, they don’t come around enough and when they do, we tend to look right past the importance of them. Turn the curve, take a new path and don’t be afraid to take a chance. The straight and narrow doesn’t always take you where you should be or the best place for you, sometimes the smallest detour can put you in the right spot at the right time.

Don’t let 2014 be a repeat of 2013, if it was a bad year for you. If the things that made it a bad year are within your control to change, then change them. If not, then do your best to adapt and learn how to live around them. Remember how important the people around you are, not just those you love but those you don’t even know. We all have a story, they’re all basically the same – we need to be loved and wanted, we need acceptance, we need to be taken seriously and we need each other. Without other people, what kind of story would you really have to write?

This year, stop worrying about what other people think of you. Guess what, they spend less time doing so than you have built up in your head. The only person you should worry about is the person you look at in the mirror every day. That is the opinion that matters most. If you don’t like yourself, how can you expect anyone else to like you? Kick start your confidence, you have every reason to be confident in who you are and the only way anyone can take that confidence away is if you allow them to. What you allow is exactly what will continue. God gave you a backbone for more reasons than keeping you standing up, it’s a sign of strength and sign of courage and confidence. We all have one. Never be afraid to let people know you’re stronger than they give you credit for. Kick life in the teeth this year.

This year, go get what’s yours. It’s time to stop simply existing and start living, start striving and start thriving. The main obstacle for all of us seems to be ourselves. We’re scared of failure, of not being accepted, at being told it will never work. Never let your fear be bigger than your determination. You’re worth your time, you’re worth your effort and you need to have a little faith in yourself.

2014 is your book, start writing it YOUR way.
