Psst…Hey You! You’re Beautiful, Pass It On

2 Jan

The saying that a butterfly can’t see how beautiful it’s own wings are is such a true statement. Society has  gotten us so caught up in what other people think of how we look that we often forget how simply and honestly beautiful we really are as people. We’re not all blessed with supermodel looks, bikini ready bodies, designer jean rear views, or abs you could bounce a quarter off of. What we are all blessed with is our own unique beauty, character, flaws and personalities.

You may look in the mirror and think “I’m fat … I’m getting wrinkles … My hair is too thin ..” blah blah blah. What you can’t see is what other people see when they look at you. You can’t see what they see when they watch you laugh, the picture they see when the sun hits your face just right, when they see you sleeping, when they see that sparkle in our eyes when something makes you happy. The things you do can make you more beautiful than what you look like. When a mother rocks her newborn child to sleep, when a wife squeezes her husband’s hand during a rough time, watching your daughter having a “tea party” in her room with her stuffed animals, being around someone who would rather spend their time doing what they can to help someone who needs them instead of worrying about themselves, the truth and honesty written on someone’s face when they’re telling you how they feel about you… that’s what beauty is. Bodies change, anything can happen at any time that can take away physical beauty, but the beauty inside is something that is always there, that doesn’t change. Yes, physical looks are important, you can’t dispute that but if you really pay attention to people and take the time to get to know them, you may find that their unique beauty far exceeds their outer beauty.

Start looking past the mirror and stop worrying what other people think … you’re your own worst critic, how about being your own best friend for a change and see how that works for you.

“No matter how plain a woman may be, if truth and honesty are written across her face, she will be beautiful.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt

“You’re beautiful, just the way you are. Shine on. And dare anyone to turn off the lights.”
― Mandy HaleThe Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass

“If this were a proper world, beautiful faces would belong to beautiful people. Good people with kind hearts and clever minds would always have bright eyes and dazzling smiles, and bad people would have scraggly hair and warty noses. That way if you saw one of them coming, you could cross to the other side of the street and avoid them altogether.
But this is not a proper world. In our world, many bad people look quite nice, and many good people are not beautiful at all. Many good people aren’t pretty or cute or even interesting-looking.”
